I popped open a jar of Prairie Wind that was jarred up in 2013. I still have 11 jars, but I just wanted to check out how a few blends that I have set back was aging. It has definately gotten darker and sweeter, and it still has a tin note that suggests a whiff of something slightly aromatic, maybe treakle or malassas. It's a VaPer, but unlike any other in that it has a very pleasant sweet and sourness. When it was fresh, I would have sworn that it had a bit of PG, but as it has aged, it takes much less time to dry. It definately has some depth in that it starts off as described, but gets more plummy and sweet as it progresses. The perique is fruity and added very conservatively. I never get a peppery or acidic perique flavor. It just smokes very mild, not a typical VaPer, but it would be a great all day smoke. It left a very mild aromatic smell in my pipe, and Mrs Cosmic says it smells great in the room.
This would make a great introductory blend for someone wanting to step away from aromatics, or someone who just wants to explore all of the VaPers out there. I am not a dogmatic flake freak, but this one would make a great flake.
It also leaves me wondering who prepared the Virginias for them.
