yehhhh, I guess I am just too open-minded to any conclusion to be afraid of the future in any way. Apocalypse, globalization, collapse, homogenization... none of that triggers any reaction from me. Whatever happens, happens. The more flexible will survive, while the more rigid will break. Read the situation, access your standing, and adapt or evolve. Anything else is futile.

Wolf, I did bookmark that short story you posted because I am interested in reading it later when I have the time. I appreciate technology and its possibilities, but also find the exponential advancement of technology worrisome. I'm never more happy and content than I am when engaging with nature. Fishing and canoeing are my favorite methods, but of course there are many others. The loss of this sort of engagement is definitely a troubling prospect.
One concern is that the march of technology is essentially unstoppable at this point, and legislating against it would probably be useless in the long run. Sure, certain practices could be banned, but in the long run, curiosity will get the best of us, and someone will do or attempt to do the thing that is forbidden. If it can be done, it probably will be done.

We do poke some fun and jab a little on here. But, in all fairness some on here were quick to attack Happy in his earlier posts.
I believe that started initially because this thread followed soon after another of his that wasn't very well received.
But the great majority of the joking around on here was not directed at "Happy" and really had nothing to do with him.
A little of it did, mostly because he chose to get offended so easily and take it all so personally.
Then even after it seemed that the air had been cleared, and the subsequent banter was not directed at him, he still chose to take it personally and get offended yet again.
Calling yourself Happy and consistently behaving unhappy is sort of painting a target on one's own back.
Anyway, having said all that, none of this should really be taken seriously...it's all just joking around. And as I told Happy earlier in the thread, he really needs to lighten up a bit...IMO.

I'll confess to piling on, or perhaps just poking. It's not good behavior, no matter the circumstances, once you realize that it's not being well received. It's human instinct, I guess, but not one of our better instincts.
So, if I ribbed you a bit too much, or poked you too hard, I'm sorry, Happy.

Wait, people take things on this site seriously? Besides pipe tobacco I mean. Almost every post turns into jokes and overall silliness. That's why it's so much fun to log on here.
Dont take life so seriously, you'll never get out alive.

Yeah, I think telling someone to lighten up is just fine, if you know them and know that they are just having a humor fart. Telling someone to laugh when they don't find something funny just isn't amusing.
Much.

If you go back and look at the bottom of page 1, the air had been cleared and Happy thanked me for my response to him.
The little bit of banter after that had nothing to do with him and was not directed at him in any way...so I was very suprised when he then suddenly popped back in and expressed being offended yet again. At what, I have no idea.
But, nevertheless, he was offended. So, Happy, I apologize. Hope you're not harboring any grudges here...this was all just fapping about.

wolf: I don't know that we have many members who desire to have their thought provoked! But, I appreciate your effort to awaken mine. :worship:
I find it interesting when someone posts a problem and, expecting everyone to be supportive, is surprised/offended when not everyone is. We are a varied lot of pipe smokers, some of us are a bit skewed in our humor others, never posting unless trying to help. But, expecting only "on-point" responses is simply expecting too much. It is the "inter-web" after all.
A thick skin is required when posting anything, anyplace, on the internet. A lot of posters expect only serious responses and are quickly offended when things "go south." And, "going south" is something which happens often on this site. It's what we do, we are excellent at moving a thread off target! We do it with pride and often ... without thinking. That's what makes us ... well, whatever it is we are. Entertaining? Thoughtful? Thoughtless? Imperfect?
Any thread which stays on topic for more than ten replies is a rarity. And, a thread title open to multiple interpretations, poorly thought out or intentionally, that isn't skewered within two posts means the members are "asleep at the switch."

... whereas you have built a report with the member.
That would be "rapport" with a member, unless you're referring to a type of reportage, written testimony, and the like.
I've only know one Sitter in my younger years whom I really wanted to alter. The rest weren't very inspiring.
