Hi there. I'm new on this forum though many of you might recognize me from smokersforums.co.uk where I was very active for several years.

I would have posted this in the trading forum but A) I'm trying to assess the level of interest, not offering anything up at this moment and B) I'm too new to post there anyway.

I went through a period where I was routinely checking online for listings related to tobacco pipes here in Seattle.

I am starting the process of downsizing my pipe collection and am going to start with the stuff that has least utility for me and takes up the most room.

I probably have twenty to thirty pipe racks that came along in various transactions.

I probably have three hundred or so estate "drugstore pipes" i.e. no maker, or "imported briar" or companies like Dr. Grabow.

If there is interest, I will organize the pipe racks a bit, as they are larger, and offer everything up for free, just pay shipping. The pipes will be random, completely random, folks will just tell me how many they want, minimum of ten probably, and I'll shove my hand in the pile and grab that many and send them off.

Is there any interest in this sort of thing or should I throw the stuff away? My wife thinks it's silly but I know that there are folks who rehab pipes for vets or folks on low income, or might want some scruffy pipes to practice on.

Disclaimer: Unless I make a mistake, I'm sincere in saying that the pipes are drugstore pipes i.e. I've been going through them, found the stuff that I personally thought was worth keeping, and one way or another, will be disposing of the rest.

Thanks in advance for sharing your opinion. I have no idea if anyone will want this stuff, but it seems a shame to toss it.

That is very generous of you. Your post reminded me of The Free Pipe Project that provides pipes and tobacco to deployed troops. I don’t have any experience with it but thought I would put it out there as an option. I can’t vouch for them, but if you decide to send them some pipes PM me and I will send you a check to help with shipping.

That's really great. I was fairly active in the Seattle Pipe Club for several years but stopped around 2011 or thereabouts, so anyone who has really hit the radar in the last 10 years or so is something I haven't seen. Back at that time, I had a contact through Smokers Forums who was in the US south and I'd send him all my random excess estate pipes and he'd send me pictures of him handing them out -- cleaned up, with pipe cleaners and tobacco -- at the local American Legion. It was great and well worth the $$ to send things to him, a big box every four to six months via UPS Ground wasn't a big deal.

Thank you for that reference! Cool idea!

I’ve got a thing for Decatur straight racks, I’d be intetested.
I think the idea of getting good cheap pipes to active duty or vets is awesome.

I'm a member of the SPC and we recently had a gentleman donate a bunch of puppies to the club which were them sold at discount prices to members. The proceeds went to help fund various club events. Just a thought. Regardless, I'm always in the market for a new pipe rack!

This is very generous of you! I assume you are located in the US? I was playing with the idea of doing a group Zoom call or even a live stream with people interested in pipe restoration, starting from the basics. I think it would be amazing if those people could have a pipe in front of them to work on. After we are done they could also donate the restored pipe if they want to.

I would be very interested in a pipe rack as well. No real need for pipes but would not object if one or two were tossed in. I also like the idea of giving pipes to the troops.

I will restore and distribute any donated pipes at the local Legion hall.

Quick update. 25 lbs of pipes with some drugstore tobacco as packing material will be enroute Monday. The larger bags have 30 pipes each, so 210 in those, and another 20-25 in the smaller bags, so 230+ pipes all told. Thanks again to SmokingInTheWind for making the Free Pipe Project suggestion!
