I hang out with a group of pipe smokers, and we call ourselves "the old dudes". Now keep in mind that I am in my mid 60s and I'm the youngest of the group so these guys have put some serious miles on a pipe. The other night we met in my buddy's man cave(garage) for about three hours. Most of us smoked several bowls consecutively. When we were getting ready to wrap up for the night, I saw one of the guys pop in a couple cough drops. I asked him if he had a sore throat. He said no, that his doctor(who is also a pipe smoker) told him that if his tongue feels tingly after he smoked a couple bowls in a row to suck on a couple cough drops. The numbing from the cough drops will give immediate relief, and the mild medicine in the cough drops will mitigate some of the effects from tongue bite. I really have no idea if there's any truth to this and I don't generally struggle with tongue bite but I figured I would pass on this bit of information. Do with it, but you will!
