I was absolutely addicted to Soupy Sales' shows. My friends and I would often "talk" like White Fang and Black Tooth, two of the "puppets" that were regulars., to drive our adults nuts.(Old fart fans of the show will know what I mean.)
All you guys bashing Soupy have no idea how much you missed, not having had his shows in your life. He was so far ahead of his time in the 50s and 60s. And, as a jazz maven, he would often have guest musicians, such as, Ellington, Armstrong, Parker, Holiday, Davis and Sinatra, stop in and perform on the late night version of the show Soupy's On.
His shows were a combination of Improv and slapstick , done live, that was funny to both the kids and to their parents. He was an influence on so many comedy shows, think Laugh-In, SNL, SCTV, and other shows, that mixed silly with clever.
You guys owe it to yourselves to watch some bits on YouTube.
