Poke Pole

I'm going camping today with my 7 year old son. We are staying north of Santa Cruz California and I plan to fish for some monkey face eels for the first time. Should be an adventure for both of us. Poke pole fishing is an old way of catching fish in the tide pools and rocks. I was looking at this guy's video from San Francisco. He goes to a Chinese market to buy bait and is smoking a pipe. Just thought I would share. I'll post pics if we catch any thing.

Saw it on Andrew Zimmerman Show, I'll eat em.

We did something similar for bass at night 30 years ago, jon boat, electric trolling motor, 10 ft bamboo fishing pole, 2 - 3 ft of 20# mono tied to a jitterbug & run the banks, right up to the bushes. Will wake you up.

We did not end up fishing as the camp ground was in a marine reserve. Still had a blast though, wish we were still there.
