Do any of you gents out there carry a pocket watch? Or if you dont carry one, anyone know where I can get a good one for a decent price. Turns out Colibri makes several watches that look very nice and are in my price range. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wear a pocket watch daily. Just avoid the quartz movement ones. Get a mechanical preferably on with a open face so you can see it work. Check out charles hubert on amazon theyre pretty inexpensive and work quite well.

Thanks for the heads up on mechanical watches. I saw that the colibris all got pretty poor ratings on amazon. The Charles Huberts were a little more than I was looking to spend, but who knows. Maybe Ill just wait a little longer and get a nice one.

I love a mechanical pocket watch mine runs for about 48 hours on a full wind. I typically wind it every night before bed. This is the one I wear at work everyday. http://www.amazon.com/Charles-Hubert-Paris-Finish-Mechanical-Pocket/dp/B002NSMF8W/ref=sr_1_12?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1316983190&sr=1-12

I tend not to carry my phone with me when I work at the restaurant for several reasons. 1. I get so damn busy on the line that I never get time to look at it. 2. When I used to carry it with me, it would get so damn dirty from the flour and the hot grease splashing everywhere. 3. My cell phone is pretty shitty and has a tendency to turn itself off at will.

Yep, have carried one for many years. This is my current favorite, from Montana Silversmiths:

I have a Charles-Hubert pocket watch. Fiance gave it to me as an anniversary present our first anniversary. Don't carry it as much as I should. I like to wear it when I wear one of my vests. Do the chain link exposed thing. Very vintage, very sexy.

I have an old pocket watch given to me by my great grandfather. He was a jeweller and had a number of them left over, along with various mantel, grandfather, and cuckoo clocks, after he closed down his shop. I remember being treated to an elaborate symphony every time the hour would strike at my great grandparent's house. I really should think about picking up another one to carry on a daily basis.

That kind of environment wouldn't be too good for even a pocket watch.
Thats why I was looking for something a little on the cheap side. I figure it has the clamshell design and the could keep flour and grease away from the working parts.
got my watch from overstock. Less than a hundred bucks, keeps decent time, and looks fine. It is an Akribos XXIV.
Thank you for the heads up. I totally forgot about overstock. Am currently browsing their site now.

matchstickman,
where are you located? I'm in CA, and my local gun show has a very nice guy who sells vintage pocket watches. He has watches in all price ranges ($100 and up), and there's nothing like owning a piece of history. Be warned though...you may end up being like me, wanting a single watch, and ending up collecting them!
