Plug Tobacco Suggestions

I hope I’m posting in the right section.

I’m looking for suggestions for plug tobacco as a gift for a buddy of mine. He doesn’t like Latakia or Perique (I know, I’m working on him). He does like burley and Virginia. He will smoke blends that have Lat and Perique, but only if they aren’t too strongly applied.
It needs to be plug, or perhaps a krumble kake. of them that I can think of have a lot of Lat.

I’ve never tried War Horse Bar. How heavy is the Perique in it? Any other suggestions?

GH&C Dark Plug Unscented is Virginia and burley.

Salty Dogs has perique but it fantastic! (Might be the rum in it.)

The only true plug that I know of with regular availability in the states is Peterson's Perfect Plug.. well, Salty Dogs is currently available but it contains perique. Gawith Plugs occasionally pop up. Pretty much everything else is a crumble cake.

I can't imagine it'd be that difficult. You may not be able to apply the same force as a factory, but you could probably get by with a form and a vise.

Done a couple with a pollen press , more of a cake cuz I didn’t have whole leaf. Came out ok

A pollen press? I know people use that for marijuana but it's an ingenious idea to try with tobacco.

How long did you compress the tobacco before taking out the plug?

I am not an expert at all but I suspect there is more than just pressing to get a quality plug. I love the SG-GH plugs and ropes and in the few videos I saw of their plug and ropes making process in addition to the press there is a complicated process of heating, steaming and often adding casing. Not to say a homemade plug cannot be made but that there are many other variables involved and in some way it is a form of art which takes time and experience to master.

Bought a tin of 3P’s (and a pound of SJ Rimboche that was on sale), but you guys have gotten me interested in maybe making some plugs or cakes. I have a habit of mixing Arango Balkan Supreme with Bayou Night. I think it would go together nicely as a crumble cake. I’ll look into that.

Crumble cake. He was looking for those too. Most of the ones I suggested were crumble cakes.
