Ulu's would be great for slicing plugs! Speaking of ulu's here is a photo of me and an Inuit friend butchering a caribou carcass when I was a kid (1971). Every now and then, we'd slice off a bit to eat as we cut. The Inuit would make their ulu's from old saw blades.

I got an ulu on a trip to AK years ago. A barber's straight razor works better as a plug cutter. Plus it gives a much smoother shave than an ulu.

Ooooooo... I like the ulu WAY better so far! I've used Mora Kniv's, Opinels, single-edged utility razor blades, exacto knives, K-bars, and several others and still got the best results with the ulu AND the matching bowl... maybe it's the bowl component... matches the curve of the blade exactly. The ulu is also quite sharp enough to shave with as well. I nearly amputated my finger after slicing and dicing some delicious Black Frigate... when I was trying to just clean the ulu after the tobacco prep. Went right through my alcohol-dampened mechanics rag and sliced my finger into a bloody mess before I even felt it. What really hurt was the alcohol when it hit! (And my deep sense of personal stupidity!)

Cabinfever, have you ever eaten kiviak? Just curious. (I haven't and don't believe I could)
