I saw it on SP. It’s out of stock. I’ve never seen it in my short pipe smoking career and was wondering about it. Anyone here have/smoked any? Much different than the flakes? Ever pop up for sale anywhere? I’d love to get my hands on a few tins, if possible if you guys have good things to say about it...

It was a limited release.
Of the three presentations I prefer the user friendly ready rubbed. To me it tastes identical to the flake and is easiest to deal with.

I have a small pile of it in the cellar, if I unload I will let you know. It came out about 11 months ago so I would say wait a month and see if it is another Limited Release that comes out every year :)

To me it has next to zero sweetness.
DSK is sweet.

Taste is an odd thing isn't it? To me ODF is quite sweet, and not bland at all, it is in fact full-tasting and delicious. I found Old Joe Krantz and Haunted bookshop completely tasteless, only a whiff of Perique here and there, sold them to a friend and he loves them.

I'll be trying HH Bold Kentucky next, as although I liked ODF enough to consider it being among my top 7, I'd like it to be a bit smokier.

I prefer the plug, but only because it allows me to control the cut. Taste wise I didn’t find a huge difference.

I guess it does have a bit of dry sweetness but not as much as Orlik DSK, Dark Strong Heinrichs, or even MacBaren Dark Twist.

ODF is more one note to me.

Made you put in an order somewhere?! ?

Well I got a cart in estervals, a cart in smokingpipes, and also itching to put an order in with Tabak Aus Kiel (Motzek), as well as the great enabler - my birthday in a fortnight or so from now.

Always thinking "one more tin is basically nothing"...until it becomes 10 more tins from various stuff people recommend as "good to try if you like XYZ"!

Mixtures, flakes, plugs - really all the same but just different physicality for storage and transport.

(Plugs are sliced into Flakes, which in turn are rubbed out into Mixtures).

Looking at the plug version of G&H Dark; how substantial is the difference in taste as compared to the flake version?
