PLS HELP! Is this normal to happen inside the bowl?

My God man ... you didn't stuff tobacco in it and then put flame to the tobacco?

Smoke it lad, enjoy. It'll blacken back up and last you your lifetime. No need to be obsessive with regards to cleaning. Just find a routine that works for you. I clean the pipes I've smoked during the week on Sunday. I only run a cleaner through when I feel the draw ain't quite right. Otherwise ... Sundays are cleaning day.

I have a pipe I would like to remove the coating on what grit sand paper should i use and what tips do you have for doing this?

That’s not a stain, it’s the lack of stain. You are looking at wood there. You’ve “cleaned” away the bowl coat and stain.

Some coatings will come off with Everclear. I would try that first.
There are of course more stubborn coatings which require sandpaper to remove. I use 320 grit. I cut a piece just a bit taller than the chamber and wrap it around my finger. Take your time so as not to damage the edge of the rim. If the rim is narrow I wrap the sandpaper around a wooden dowl.

You haven't hurt a thing. Just smoke until you have enough cake to cover it. It doesn't take much. Use pipe cleaner until you get the cake built.

True. The new stuff is like roofing tar with sand mixed in it. The old stuff would wipe out easy peasy.

There was a movie once, I think it had Kevin Costner in it. He heard some words that talked about this very topic. "If you smoke it, the cake will come."

I am pretty certain that's what he heard.

fun thought experiment is thinking about the very real problems some of those guys in that movie had in real life. And just imagining them bringing them into Kevin Costners life. For example him having to clean up ghost puke and even worse things.

It came out pretty easy I bought the pipe in 2012 and soon after stopped smoking for my 10 year stretch. Now I am back with a vengeance. I'm on my 5th bowl today use to it was maybe 5 bowls a week. Oh back to the pipe its a kinsale xl 15 I'm guessing it was before the new stuff you guys are speaking of. Also the pipe was never smoked just stored it the closet.

My Atlantic, Derry and Dracula had the horrible sticky tar stuff. The Phoenix had the typical coating that wiped right out. Personally, I'm not a big fan of bowl coatings but to each his own.

That's good news. Sandpapering out a bowl coating is a PITA.

As many have already said, that you have removed the bowl coating is not a problem. It appears that you’re following the long-accepted method of breaking in a pipe by smoking half-bowls. I’m more concerned about the appearance of the bottom half of the bowl than I am the top, where you haven’t really smoked it yet. I’m guessing that you removed the bowl coating in the bottom, as well. The bottom looks shiny, suggesting that you’re not building cake and perhaps even scorching your briar. I don’t think you have a problem yet, but you need to develop a protective layer of cake.

Using a paper towel is something I advocate, but use it dry and don’t be too aggressive when you’re trying to build cake. Don’t use water or alcohol. If you are a devotee of the water rinse school (I have no opinion on that, BTW), wait until you’ve built some cake.

It's ruined, don't worry I'll dispose of it and any other pipes that have suffered such misfortune.
Also if any of your tobacco looks like it's been made into ribbons or worse...flake cut then that is also ruined, again send it to me for disposal...unfortunately it will have to be cremated, I have specialist equipment...a Savinelli 105 portable disposal pyro system to take care of that.

Hey guys! So I bought this pipe a couple weeks ago (It's a Molina) and it smokes great, but today I noticed it developed this orange/brownish stain inside the the top part of the bowl. I clean the pipe everyday after smoking it because I don't like to build too much cake, and I take pretty good care of her, but even after using a damp soft cloth, the stain won't go away. Is it normal? Is there any other solution to get rid of it?View attachment 204001
