Please Tell Me about Swedish Snus

So I purchased a can of General Original this morning on a whim when I was paying for gas and this stuff is very interesting. I haven't done a lot of research into Swedish snus other than it's pasteurized instead of fire-cured which makes it much less carcinogenic.

The flavor is a bit citrusy, salty, and has an herbal tea thing going on, but what really surprised me was the nic hit. It came on nice and gentle and then before I knew it, I had myself a little buzz going.

I think I may want to explore Snus further, are there any experienced members who can guide me to make a smart purchase online? I have no idea where to start.

General, that is one of the oldest and most classic swedish snus brands.
I prefer Grov myself.

I had a short experience with snus, snuff & all things tobacco years past. I had a similar experience as you with a heavy menthol snus that was enjoyable, but definitely had me sit down for a few minutes. ? I used to pinch Copenhagen in my youth so I thought nothing of it. Nicotine rarely ever effects me, but in that occasion I was pleasantly surprised. I’d recommend Thunder Frosted. ?️

I haven't gotten to GR Los yet, but I've tried Grov and Rhoda Lacket. Both are fantastic.

Ever since first trying it over a month ago, it's kind of replaced pipe smoking as a maintenance thing. Now I only smoke a couple times a week.

Zyn offers a similar nic hit in pouch form and is completely tobacco free. I use them daily, with a snus or pipe once a week or so.

Although I am smoking more heavily this month as I’m revisiting a bunch of blends I’m pondering getting rid of just in case.

This applies to Finland as well, especially among younger generation this product is very popular,nontheless due to ruthless EU regulations sales of any form of oral tobacco products,including Swedish Snus are prohibited by law here , personally I do prefer American loose leaf Chewing tobacco over any snuss

Yeah they certainly have more of a gum/mint flavor than a smokeless tobacco flavor. Thats why I keep snus around for the occasional indulgence as well, haha.

For those not up on snus, it is moist powdered tobacco you put under your upper lip. In that sense, it is a bit like chewing tobacco but does not require spitting. It attracts the same health warnings as chewing tobacco and other forms of tobacco, and sale is prohibited in a lot of places.

I used it quite a bit in various attempts to quit smoking cigarettes, including this current period of about 18 months. If you haven't had it before, it will be very... weird. It will taste very salty, and will lack both the smoky flavor and intense sweetness of most American smokeless products. The Swedish government and others have studied the stuff, and have found it to have a much lower risk of oral cancer than traditional fire-cured smokeless products. Like, I want to say they have not found any statistically significantly link between snus and oral cancer. They did find a slight increased risk of other forms of cancer, so it is not a perfect product, just potentially a fine harm reduction tool. Another major advantage is that it is taken in the top lip, and you don't have to spit.

I preferred the Los(loose) varieties. It takes a bit of practice to learn to "bake a prilla" and work the snus into a workable clump that won't just disintegrate in your mouth. The portions (pouches) are great, but they're designed to be discreet. I liked feeling something substantial in my lip, and the loose let me choose my own dose in that regard.

General is basically the Marlboro of snus, a very old brand and the most common. It's very good. I personally preferred Goteborgs Rapé (I know) and Ettan in the loose forms, and Nick and Johnny Red Hot and Americana as flavored, strong portion snus. If you get into it, I recommend buying in quantity direct from Sweden because there is so much variety and as long as you order plenty to lessen the shipping charge per can, you will save money.

Only real downside is that after aworking day with snus stuffed in my lip, it negatively affected the taste of cigars and pipes in the evening. Just my experience, of course.

NO! The Swedish snus not only tastes far better, it is processed differently and has far fewer carcinogens.

Interestingly, the FDA just approved new warning labels for Swedish Match (the company that makes General Snus) that allow them to say:

"Using General Snus instead of cigarettes puts you at a lower risk of mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis.”

They do still have to bear the same warning as other smokeless products in addition to this though.

Apparently he uses a process that does something to the enzymes that makes it less dangerous as well. I just wish I could find something commercial like what he was making. I liked it, but I don't want to have to get into cooking my own snus also. Plus, I would go crazy trying to get the stuff into little bags to put them in my mouth.
