Sunday is house cleaning day for wifey and me, and because we live in a very small house, it doesn't take too long to finish. So I had some free time, which I used to sift through my cellar, a task I had been putting off longer than I would have liked. Once I started though, it got kind of fun...

...so I knew my lone tin of Mac Baren Solent Mixture (dated 11/14) had Syrian latakia in it, but upon further inspection of my oldest tin of Plumcake (dated 01/15), I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had Syrian lat as well. Guess I know which tin I'll be digging into next, once that time comes.

That's my biggest cellar surprise so far. What's yours?

At my heaviest buying, I put back many pounds of both of those over a decade ago. Luckily the Latakia has only faded to a whisper in the background. As for surprises, my memory doesn't allow for that. I can tell where each blend in mine or my wife's cellars are upon demand.

My biggest surprise is just how fucking much cellar I still have...

I haven't been buying much for the past 4 years, and I've been smoking a lot more than I've bought, and the cellar hasn't shrunk much at all. I must have a bigger cellar than I thought.
Luxury problems…..

My biggest surprise is how much money I’ve spent in the two years I’ve been doing this, and how small my stash is…

Nothing really wow'ed me other than Artisan's Blend with Syrian Lat. Have enough still in the stash. Then the Squadron Leader hit me again with wow, but this has that Cyprian. So my thinking is, it's more of who and how the blend is mixed than the origin of component Lat. No surprise for me. But waiting to open few Dunhill branded tins from their last lot.

a few bowls of Brebbia Allegro. Still not as great as when I was a kid and I would put on my wedding/funeral suit and find all the cash my relatives gave me last time I wore it. That was phat as phunk.

that's actually because every single time we raid your cellar we top every single thing in there with Middleton Cherry.

Same. I've pretty much stopped buying. Although I may need to do an order of Sutliff 507C one last time.

My biggest cellar surprise is how well BCA ages. I pack it away on purpose now.

My cellar will outlast me. I am trying to get to some of my stash, but I keep screwing up and buying more tobacco.

I've added 60 tins of Sir John's Flake Virginia this year. That's my favorite smoke, it's my first bowl of the day every day with a cup of coffee. Other than that, not many surprises in the cellar. I moved it all from Indiana to Florida 2 years ago, I pretty much know what's in there. I'm fortunate to have plenty of everything else I want to smoke and a fair amount of stuff I don't care so much about. The investment I made is paying dividends as most of what I smoke is 4 to 8 years old. While I wish I would have bought more e when it was available, I have over 20 pounds of McClelland Virginias to enjoy.

My only surprise was a negative... looking for something I swore I had, but turns out that I did not.

My stash, if I had to guess, is ≈15 lbs based on how many tins I have and knowing most of them are 1.75 oz/50 gram. Maybe off, I count the "quantity of tins" as 1 for every 1.75 oz or 50 grams... and a handful of tins are 3.5 oz/100 gram and I don't know how many and I know I counted them as 1 rather than 2. I already counted any 1 lb bulks as being 9 tins (16 ÷ 1.75 = 9.14), which I only have 2 of, plus 4 cans of Maple Shadows (2 lbs), and I did count those accurately as 9, 9 and 18.

That's actually a pleasant surprise, I didn't ever do the math before just now. The actual math based on what I have listed as the total quantity of tins (which is off) is 17.61 lbs, but I rounded-down for a conservative estimate in case I have other tins in my list that I actually already finished but didn't update the list. Guess I'm not as behind on building as I thought.
