My new Briar Bird is a plat and I was wondering is there any special care needed for the rim to bee on the safe side I have been only lighting it with matches.

Usually just a wipe down with a polishing cloth to keep the dust off and such. But if someone else has a better idea that would be great and help me out to.

I've been trying to be extra careful to fill the bowl at least an 1/8 inch from the top of the actual chamber. Also wiping the rim immediately with saliva dampened cloth. I only use matches. That Plataeu is a pain to keep nice, and I am still figuring it out myself.

The ones I had were pretty durable, needing very little care. I have some Halycon wax for rusticated finish pipes, put a little of that on with your finger, then work in with a tootbrush. Than, buff with a cloth. http://www.finepipes.com/accessories/halcyon-ii-wax

I have had a Leedy for a year or so. No issues with burning the rim. It does seem to get dusty easily. I just wipe it off.
