I'm interested to hear your opinion on this blend. Syria Latakia is listed as 1 of the ingredients

I've been waiting for someone else to answer because I don't trust my taste that much to give an educated response.
I've had three or full bowls of it and it really hasn't met my expectations. I don't taste any latakia at all. It seems to be mostly cigar leaf and orientals coming through. There is a bit of nutty sweetness that's nice but not enough to make it worthwhile. Seems to be higher in nicotine levles that other English blends I've tried.
Is that what's called a shag cut? It's like loading my pipe with clumps of moss =) The tobacco I got is fairly moist, so I'm going to let it dry out a bit and try it again later.

So far, from what I've tasted, there's only one blender I trust to blend Syrian so it really shines. McClelland.

*Disclaimer - I never got to try the GLP Syrian blends. I didn't smoke many latakia blends until about a year after the warehouse fire. And I really like the magic GLP does with tobacco in general.

It should be easy enough to try, SmokingPipes website seems to always have it in stock in bulk form. It was on my list of blends with Syrian to try. Then I eventually decided to take it off, due to the cigar leaf.

@Woods, I knew Planta made Germain's Mixture No.7 but wasn't aware they made others.

Planta has an aromatic blend called "California Dream" I've liked enough to reorder. It has a pleasantly mild orange blossom flavor.

The word to me from a prominent person in the British tobacco business is that Planta makes all of Germain's stuff now. I can't confirm this from a primary source, however. Does Planta have the facilities to produce flakes? I am skeptical that Germain would have the equipment to expertly press and neatly cut just the very small amount of flake that they sell. My guess is that someone does it for them, someone who produces much higher volumes of plug and flake.
