There are people who have vented vociferously of their plaint with P&C, yet they keep going back for another swing of the bat. I think that it has something to do with the Stockholm Syndrome, but I'm not sure.

paddy: Masochism or possibly, an inability to learn from experience. I think a masochistic bent is the best explanation.
These threads always lead me to wonder why? Why some feel the need to share their less than satisfactory commercial transactions with others? Misery loves company? "Help me! Help me! I don't know what to do!"
If you can't handle the problem yourself, contest the transaction through your credit card company. Or, Pay Pal. Take the matter up with your state attorney for consumer affairs.
But, to keep returning to a retailer "who done you wrong" does suggest a masochistic leaning.

Warren, nails it. I have never had a bad experience with P&C. I have had exemplary service from SmokingPipes and 4Noggins. But in the fountain pen world, I have had some snafus with one source of ink and everytime, without fail, I reach out and they correct the issue. Seems like P&C does the same. I suppose there will always be outliers but I do not see how they are still in business if their customer service is as bad as some paint. It does not add up.

I have a philosophy that everything will go wrong and when it doesn't and works out with no problems, it makes my day. Since I am always prepared for problems I am never upset when they happen, and happen they will. So I am always on an even keel or happy when problems do not happen.
Regarding P&C, I have received some dented or popped tins. One order I received had an 8oz tin of Union Square literally crushed and the contents spread all in the bottom of the box. What did I do, checked the tin seals and if ok stored them. If not sealed I put the tobacco in a jar. The Union Square was replaced and this was clearly a UPS caused problem.
And the moral of all this is, wait for it, time still marches on and I am at peace with myself. P&C is still there, has good prices, some great sales and for me, no customer service problems and I will purchase from them again. It's all in the perspective you want to take. Be miserable or be happy.

Trade associations ought to draft contracts for retailers to use with IT contractors to exact some culpability if they screw up. Bad computer systems can cost businesses serious losses. Something to think about if you are buying new systems and systems consulting for your businesses.

Problems solved by a single call to smokingpipes customer service and same to P&C have different results. At this point I don't know if the problem is theirs or mine, but I stay away from P&C, which is difficult for me given Mr. Ouellette's fine blending.
In February I decided to trade two pipes for a Castello to smokingpipes, which I loved, but on receipt not the out-of-round chamber, and I also had tobacco as part of the deal. On the morning they received the return, but after they had made an offer on the pipes, I decided to buy a more expensive Castello and asked them to stop shipment of the first pipe and the tobacco. They weren't happy with that request. So I got both the first and second pipe in hand. But the mild out-of-round decides the issue, and I return it. To do all of this requires talking to each member of their customer service team, but it gets done correctly and amicably enough.
In short, I was a real pain in the ass, and it still worked out. I shudder to think how this would have been handled by P&C, and I don't want to know. Perhaps two things are true: P&C makes more mistakes, and forum members have a very long memory.
