Hey guys as I continue this journey as a beginning pipe smoker I have asked a lot of questions of you guys and you all have been awesome. Now I have developed quite a little sinus infection and I was curious if you had pot smokers see an uptick in sinus problems?

Never have had a pipe cause them, but I have noticed milder blends are kinder with a head cold, and retrohaling aromatics helps with a sore throat.

The sinus infection could be unrelated to pipe smoking or an individual susceptibility, like an allergy or response to tobacco or flavorings. If it were me, I'd suspend smoking until you are well, then try unflavored (non-aromatic) mild blends on a tentative basis to see how that works. People are very individual.

Im still learning terminology. Does non aromatic mean straight virginia or burley like PA? Or just something without flavoring so i could smoke my dunhill nightcap?

I'm not an ENT, but if this is the first case of sinusitis you've had in recent history, and you haven't had a cold lately, and you haven't been experiencing seasonal allergies lately, then there could be a causative relationship with smoking. Have you noticed yourself becoming stuffed-up since starting the pipe? That would be further evidence.

I would point you to a nettie pot to help with sinus infections. In the four years since making this a part of my regular bodily upkeep routine I have not had one sinus issue that resulted in me having a full blown sinus infection. I also have noticed that I can better taste and smell the odors of my pipe when I recently have cleansed my sinuses.

Go to Walgreens and get a bottle of saline solution( it is just salt water) flush your nose real good once an hour and by the second day the infection should be gone, if not keep up with the Saline till it is gone. Stuff works better than anything a doctor ever gave me.

If it's a problem I'd have them flushed and see if there is an improvement. Don't know the cost, the Air Force did it free a couple of times for me back in the '60s. Can't be too expensive as there is no anesthesiologist involved and it's out patient stuff. I've not had problems in many years.

I think the large majority of sinus infections are viral? They just come and go and aren't per se linked to anything. I get sinus infections, but have never linked pipe smoking as a cause. I don't smoke much when I have one, but to answer your question... I did not experience an uptick in sinus problems when I took up the pipe.

I said the reason I ask is twofold I've got one right after a day where I smoked 3 and it is bummed me out because I find it irritating to smoke right now with the infection
