Yaesu FT-70D, I had a Kenwood TM V71A for a while, but I sold it and it’s just the HT now. Eventually I will probably get another unit, but the Yaesu satisfies me right now.
tMV71A is a true Dual Bander with Cross Band Repeat. Not that I’d recommend putting that into 100 percent operation Good mobile or base rig.

Another option, if licensed, is Echo Link which you can load onto your phone and talk to the world. Voice over internet protocal will allow you to drop in on another repeater in any country of choice to rag chew until your hearts content.

I was originally licensed in 1996. Got my son into it with me and was very active in ARES (was DEC for a while). Loved supporting events and setting up emergency communications for local hospitals. We both ended up getting our General, and then I went to Extra and got a vanity call. I’ve owned lots of radios over the years but currently only have a Kenwood TH-D72 HT. I recently have been looking at HF radios with the intention of getting into DX.

Curious, did anyone have a chance to play in the 10 meter contest over the weekend? If so how was it, and how was the propagation on 10? I had planned on it, but got too busy and didn't turn on the rig all weekend.
