The problem as I see it from a Canadian viewpoint is that several of us are building up a cellar right now to get ahead of whatever price increases or taxes may hit the US soon, as we have already experienced here. I really like P+C, but not enough to be patient at the moment. If they suddenly decide to reactivate international shipping in a few months, for example, chances are I'll have already placed several orders with their competition and may not need to go back.
So without offering a timeline for future international shipping that I could prepare for, I'll be moving on.

I'm in the shipping/mailing industry and I can tell you Peck that there are ZERO incremental costs to shipping internationally. The customs docs are all automatically generated by shipping systems, its literally 2 extra clicks of a mouse. So that excuse simply doesnt fly. They charge accordingly, so there is no reason to not offer other than their internal systems dont deal with it.

As a side note, as mentioned above, this has no effect on the two Habana Premium Cigar Shoppe locations in the Albany area.

Russ: So I'll be able to stop in the Habana shop and pick up a small amount of Larry's Blend, etc. to enjoy in the lounge? From Rickpal's comment, it sounds like their inventory is solely cigars?

Since I'm not directly involved in shipping, I'm not in the loop on the international shipping, but I will find out what I can.

Scott has said that Hearth & Home will still be available at Habana Premium.

I will do my best to keep you informed as things develop.

The most recent info I could find is that CI is owned by Scandinavian Tobacco Group.

That's good to hear that Habana will still be carrying H&H blends. It looked pretty empty in the tobacco section but from your response it looks like it is just an interim situation. Good news indeed!!!!
What location will your home base be? I get to the area on business and would love to stop by next time I am in the area.
Oh yeah....... GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Roth, I hear what you are saying, but it doesn't really make sense to me. The theory would have to be that if, as a non-US person, you aren't buying from P&C then you will buy from some domestic tobacco retail operation owned by (or affiliated with) STB in your home country. First, at least in the case of Canada, I don't believe STB owns any pipe tobacco retail operation in Canada. Second, and more fundamentally, If I can't buy from P&C then the absolute LAST thing I would do is buy in my home country, for an obvious reason that starts with T. I would simply buy from one of P&C's competitors instead. Just my 2 cents. Your rationale may be what they are thinking, but it doesn't ring as being logical to me.

if I were a vendor in Canada at the retail level, I wouldn't be pleased to see STG selling me cigars, but selling some of the same (or arguably better) cigars, at a much cheaper price, through STG's own U.S. companies, costing me customers and lots of money.
But doesn't STG already compete with its other US distributors? If I operate in Illinois and I am buying escudo for sale in my store there (where there is a tobacco tax), won't I be pissed if an STG owned store in PA is selling the same product to my customers for a fraction of the price that I can sell it to them? Not sure why the grievance, if there is one, is any different in the two scenarios.

Not too big of a deal for me. I mostly use smokingpipes.com or Cup O Joes. Feel sorry for the international brothers who this has affected. Hopefully, it all gets sorted out and back to normal soon.

you might want to try marscigars - flat rate shipping and they seem to have everything that I want to try. not sure about their international shipping but the order went out asap. I was pleased. only the fusilier ration is not available from what i can see. sooo- that might be a fine alternative! peckinpah hombre. where in toronto do you live - i used to hang there for many years.

If I can order Classic Burley Kake and it arrives at my door, I am a happy camper!
That's pretty much where I am, Bob. I do feel sorry for our international Brethren, though. P&C is a great source, and the Canadians just got cut off at the knees. If I thought I'd never be able to get CBK again, I'd be concerned, to say the least!

I have been using P&C almost EXCLUSIVELY for over a year. Only had one problem with 1 order, and it was fixed right away. All orders besides that one were PERFECT. I hope that this stays the same

I used to use CI exclusively for ALL of my cigar needs (sticks, lighters humidors, humdification needs, etc) and have never had an issue with them. Now I am only a 90 minute drive to their facility so I am sure that helps, but never had an issue with picking errors, damaged product, etc.
Not to mention they are a witty bunch and have a little swagger to them, which I like. I do hope they take what P&C offered from a pipe and tobacco standpoint to expand their offering and keep their QC methods and website ops. Of course, I also hope for friends in the GWN that they expand their shipping. If not, Rich at 4noggins will probably be doing the happy dance.

Here's the official news -

PipesAndCigars.com Acquired by Cigars International
Thanks Kevin.
Quote from the article: "...you can expect improved customer service, faster shipping, reduced fees on expedited shipping, and more special promotions. We are holding prices steady… and we still have a big announcement for Chicago, so be sure to come by the PipesAndCigars.com tables."
Right now the order I placed on April 11 has not shipped yet and no mention as to why. I would urge to P&C to send an email to customers who placed recent orders that there may be a delay. At least I am not in a rush and I know why, but I am betting many don't and will be unhappy.

Companies move, get bought, sold, and it's all part of the game. As long as the emphasis remains on pipes, and I have confidence that it will, given Russ's continued presence, then the customers should be ok. I have no idea why they've decided to terminate the Canadian business, but there may be import export issues that the new owners don't wish to be involved with. There are a few products that we used to order from Canada that we're unable to obtain now, except on visits home.
