Anyone know anything about tobacco blends in China? One blend for all?? Hundreds of choices? To each according to his taste, or everyone is equal and will enjoy the same mixture....??

I belong to several pipe and tobacco groups on FB (which is the only reason that I haven't cancelled my account yet) and I see a lot of men and women from various parts of the world constantly posting that they don't have much selection, or variety available to them, and that Captain Black (usually the white pouch) is the best that they can get.

I see more posts with Captain Black than any other tobacco.

Based on all of that, I would venture to say Captain Black is the most widely smoked brand of pipe tobacco.

bonanaza', I'm fascinated to learn that Dr. Grabow does substantial exporting to China! Dr. Grabow pipes are likely sold within reach of farmers and workers, and in my opinion are a good product that will sustain a good reputation. Also, I can't help but think that the Chinese may well start producing pipes modeled after Dr. Grabow, although possibly not in briar but some other locally available wood. I suspect that in China, Dr. Grabows are sold as luxury pipes. I would think they would also stimulate pipe tobacco production and marketing in China. From the heart of Sparta, North Carolina.

I think you're spot on that they are most likely affordable for the average person over there.
Interestingly enough, they also have a thriving upscale pipe market over there.

Does anyone know what the "Golden Cavendish" in 1Q is made of at base, Virginia or burley? I'm guessing Virginia because 1Q is so mild.

I've been told it's low price Green River Burley that they process by the semi truck load. 8O
