Got all that? Makes me dizzy. Did Laudisi start Smoking Pipes or buy it?
Laudisi started Smokingpipes. Or, rather, I started both at the same time. I wanted to start Smokingpipes, but I wanted an innocuous company name that wasn't tied to Smokingpipes.com or to my name, hence Laudisi Enterprises.
I won't answer for the whole industry here (mostly in the interest of not writing paragraphs and paragraphs), but here's quick Laudisi timeline:
2000: Registered Smokingpipes; incorporated Laudisi Enterprises, Inc. Smokingpipes sold its first pipes and pipe tobacco.
early 2005: Opened Low Country Pipe & Cigar in Little River, SC
late 2012: Created LDG to distribute Savinelli pipes, pipe tobacco (which, as pointed out, is made primarily by Mac Baren and Kohlhase these days) and accessories.
early 2014: Purchased Cornell & Diehl from the Tarlers
mid 2017: Incorporated Laudisi Ireland, Ltd. as holding company for Smokingpipes Europe
mid 2018: Purchased Kapp & Peterson, Ltd., which includes everything except for the Peterson tobacco brand (so, the pipe brand, factory, the shop on Nassau St and the distribution business in Ireland).
For a semi-complete list of what LDG distributes in the US, go to www.laudisi.com. Peterson stuff isn't there yet, but will be in about a week (a certain storm system named Florence has a little behind on some site updates there).
For a company overview, history and staff list for the US company (we'll add the staff in Dublin when we get a few other things sorted out), go to corporate.laudisi.com.
I hope that clarifies our little corner of all of this, at least.
