A large amount of discussion has taken place over the years on this subject.Does tobacco smell like it tastes? Does it taste like it smells? Does it do either one? There are a lot of things I wish pipe tobacco taste like.Probably even more things I wish it smelled like.My wife just bought some lotion with cocoa butter in it.It really smells nice kinda like white chocolate.Though they say white chocolate isn't really chocolate.I have no idea what cocoa butter is,but I wish I had some pipe tobacco that smells like it.

Waffles and maple syrup would be an interesting smell as well. I thing it would taste pretty interesting as well :)

Puffy, I think white chocolate is whats left over when they take out the actual chocolate, not sure exactly how that works.

James, C&D Autumn Evening will definitely cover the maple syrup http://tiny.cc/5nbdk

Haha, my wife and I spent the evening at a park next to the river and she commented how she'd like a baccy that smelled and tasted like honeysuckle. She also said cut grass, but I don't think that'd taste very well.

I'm terrible with smell and even worse describing what I taste with regards to pipe tobacco and cigars. I enjoy it for what it is. If I wanted to taste honey, vanilla or white chocolate, then I'd eat honey, vanilla or white chocolate.

I catch whiffs of cut grass and honeysuckle from most Virginias in the tin/jar. That does not translate to the taste in the smoke, but you are rewarded with the taste of sweet potato pie, caramel, sweet spice and leather from most Virginias. Would be kind of cool to smoke a pipe tobacco that tasted like fresh cut grass and honeysuckle.

Puffy--for cocoa butter, try some MacBaren Honey & Chocolate. Glad to send you a sample if you'd like. CAO's Eileen's Dream has a real white chocolate aroma that is not quite as apparent in the taste, but very good nonetheless.

James--Sutliffe's Maple Street is also a great waffles & maple syrup, and very affordable. I'd send some but...I smoked all of mine :(

Ohin/Bootleg--Organic Pipe Dreams has the most subtle, sweet hint of honeysuckle in it, but it's hard to find. Sterling's Sweet Briar can occasionally do the same, and is readily available.

I am about to finish my last bowl of Salt and Pepper, a blend from the local B&M, it contains: cavendish, burly, and PERIQUE. It has a slightly dominant taste of raisins and pepper that I love but I would never think that I would enjoy eating raisins and pepper, I do not even really care for raisins. Tobacco is like that; I hated coffee until one night at work I was smoking a Captain Black Original cigar and tasted a hint of coffee, I thought this is nice so I poured myself a cup with lots of cream and sugar. That night I learned that I like strong black coffee and only strong black coffee, now I drink a pot a day.

Awesome, Thanks romeowood. I'll see what I can find on both blends, for sure.
The issue I have with most anything topped with flavorings like cherry, vanilla, etc. is that it seems so fake from the original flavors. It's kinda like how grape kool-aid or popsicles taste nothing like real grapes, lol.

I think I have a very sensitive nose: I can smell things before others notice (if they notice at all). Spilled vinegar sends me running for the exit.
And yet, I am a victim of that old Indian curse... I can't really smell what I am smoking. Only what others smoke. This doesn't bother me much. I can taste, and that is what I judge tobaccos on, not the smell of the smoke or the tin aroma. In fact, after rubbing out one of the tobaccos laced with maple flavoring, I can smell maple syrup on my hands for DAYS afterwards. (And I do wash my hands many times a day, thank you. :) )

As a lover of aromatics, I have alot of baccy that smells amazing. Some, like Kendal Coffee Caramel, have been flavoured so heavily that it comes through on the taste, but mostly the flavours are slightly too subtle.
As for flavours, honey and caramel already exist, so I'm happy.

I was on break at work and some guy walked passed and he was smoking a pipe...I got to talking to him and asked what he was smoking, he said it was Capt Black White...and it smelled REALLY GOOD...but when I smoke it...to me it doesn't seem to smell as good as his did??
Could it be that when one smokes a blend, they really don't get the whole aroma smell???
Vanilla to me is very nice... Berry is cool...now i'm smoking more english I don't get into aromatics as much (even though have about 20 tins or aromatics that will go bad before I get to smoke them)

I always wondered about this too but it usually just smells to me like burning tobacco. The people around me get to enjoy the aroma.

Funny about the smells.
There is a blend I have that has that "raisins and spice" scent to the nose.
It is never there when I smoke it.
My "sense of taste" may be shot, for all I know. At least for subtleties.

Try leaving the room you're smoking in for a few minutes and then go back in....I'm often surprized how well I can catch the room note a tobacco leaves when I do that....

I have found that if I smoke slowly and take smaller puffs, I can taste the tobacco more than if I smoke a little faster with longer puffs. This is why pipe smoking is to be savored and not just 'done' like cigarette smoking.
