Hello! I am a Newbee when it come to pipe smoking and wondered if aim doing the right thing. I keep my tabacco in an airtight container and keep the container in the refrigerator. Is this the proper thing to do?
Thanks,

George

Hi chlogeo3,
I wouldn't advise keeping it in the refrigerator. First, the humidity level is too high. Unlike cigars, pipe tobacco does best with a low moisture content, 10%-14% is usually considered ideal. Second, even with a sealed container, your tobacco may pick up unwanted flavors from the food around it. A clean, airtight container should be fine for short to medium term storage.

Thank you for your response kcvet67. Should I keep the airtight container out in the open? Wont the moist tobacco become dry?

Please help me for Iam new at this.

As long as you don't leave the containers open after you fill your pipe you should be fine. If your tobacco feels moist to the touch if would probably benefit from drying out a little. If your tobacco has too high a moisture content it can be very hard to light and will require more re-lights. Unless your tobacco is very dry and has sort of a "crunchy" feel to it, it should smoke fine.
