I use 160 proof vodka? for cleaning my briars. It's called Devil's Springs and I figure it's the closest I can get to Everclear/Grain Alcohol until someone can get me some (It's illegal in NYS as well).

I live in Toronto (Canada) and finding Everclear or its equivalent is impossible. My question is... Is drug store Rubbing Alcohol a possible replacement for cleaning and sweetening? It is 95% Ethanol Anhydrous but will the chemicals added that make it undrinkable cause any harm to the pipe (Denatonium Benzoate, Diethyl Phtalate & Camphor)?
Or... am I just stuck using tobacco store bottled pipe sweetener? Thanks for your help.

I use Everclear. I live in NYS and my local liquor carries it. Tried a 1/4 oz shot and it freshened me right up.

Anything except my Bourbon, keep your hands off my Bourbon
Agreed. Seems like a waste of bourbon.
There's 2 bottles of liquor in my cabinet at all times. The one I drink from, and the one I dip my pipe cleaners in (high proof clear corn liquor)
It's been asked on here a few times about using Isopropyl alcohol. Some guys say it's fine. I wouldn't do it. If Everclear isn't available, just get the highest proof clear liquor you can find. Bacardi 151 seems like a good candidate for the job.

Of course, in the land of Tennessee, anything is possible. Moonshine is a possibility, if you aren't in the mood for a really smooth sip.
I use Everclear and have for years. It comes close to my beloved Moonshine. There just ain't much better on a cool night, sitting out looking up at the stars, Moonshine-cleaned pipe, and smoking some good Virginia.
One night in Arkansas on the banks of the Little Red River, the boys and I were drinking some sort of green moonshine concoction. Strong? I thought it would never quit kicking! Some of us wound up on the riverbank and others in the Little Red. It was one of those nights.
I digress. Everclear.
