Recently I knowingly bought a broken pipe, as opposed to how I usually do it (paying for a pipe you could all see was broken but I never noticed due to my PAD). This stem had damage as in the first picture.

I bought it with a view to getting a replacement stem but when it arrived it had an interesting tenon system so I decided to 'repair'it. This consisted of cutting the damaged section off with a saw and reshaping the cut with files and sandpaper.

It is now roughly finished and shown below on the pipe. My Jean Lamy.

I am happy with the results and awaiting some fine abrasive pads to finish the job.
