I have been looking at pipe stands on some sites - they always show the pipes bowl down - thought of drilling an extra row of just holes for more pipes. I would place the stems thru the holes stems down bowls resting - with the pipes stems down is there an air flow issue or is it just aesthetics to see the pipes bowls down? After smoking i always use the pipe cleaner to dry then the pipe is placed on a stand for the day drying out thoroughly. - stems down is it an issue - anyone ever seen it done ? or is it really a none issue?

I personally don't think it matters. I have pipes racked both ways. I do the same as you, run a pipe cleaner through the stem, clean out the bowl and put them in the rack. Like I said, I have them bowl down, and stem down and I never notice any difference. However, I'm thinking of building a new rack in which they'll all be bowl down, purely for looks.

I think it is a matter of personal preference. I like my pipes bowl down, but it makes sense with some pipes (and racks) that you would put it stem down because it won't fit in any other way. Smoketruck, I also like your idea of maximizing the space you have on a rack by drilling extra holes to double up.

There are a few bowl up styles of racks out there(the Davidoff rack is really cool, too bad they're crazy expensive) From what I hear the bowl down allows the post smoke moisture to drain to the bowl and be absorbed by the cake.
