I see that most pipe stands are made to hold the pipe in a position where the pipe is stem up. Asking if this is more for visual aesthetics or for practical purposes? Does anyone have any insight into this? I’m looking to expand my stands but down seems to be easier and takes up less space.
What say you?

I have a few stands that have closed holes, on those I am stem down for billiards and slightly bent. On the racks that have open holes, I am stem up. You should be fine either way

Stem up for me. I would think stem down could cause more scratches. Not that I really care.

In theory, stem down would allow better drainage of moisture from the stem and bowl, In reality, not a significant factor. All my racks are bowl down as I like the appearance, but after seeing @gamzultovah stem down rack.... rethinking my display - at least for straight pipes.

I have about 70 Lee in my office pipes stored in racks stem up, bowl out.

The ones with real gold stars are in on fronts of the racks.:)

Aside from better drainage and circulation of air, that shows off your pipes.

And, it helps to be able to pick one out from the others.

At home it doesn’t matter much.
