Sitting on my porch today smoking a pipe I found myself traveling back in time(in my mind)and remembering the years that I've been a pipe smoker.I've been in a good many smoke shops over those years.I've owned a lot of pipes..Over the years I've gotten rid of most of them.A few of them I wish had back.I lost count of how many blends I've tried a few years ago at somewhere over 300.But that's not what I remember most about my pipe smoking years. Most of all I remember the wonderful people who have smoked with me.Those who have taught me things to help improve my smoking experience.Folks in smoke shops who were all the help I had before this online thing. The folks at pipe shows. If you've never been to a show you've missed a great experience..Now I come to this forum..When I came here I just expected to read, and learn.I didn't expect to post very much at all.You folk here are just so friendly I just joined in and started posting like I belonged here.I have wonder memories of my years of pipe smoking.Pipe smokers like you are the reason why..Thank You.

Ditto. Sadly, I'm a solitary smoker, because there's no one around me who smokes a pipe or even cigar with me. When I was seeing an old friend in NV a couple of months ago, the most memorable part of that amazing stay in the barren desert 2 hours out of Vegas, was just sitting with my friend on his porch, me smoking my pipe, he his cigars, talking about history, life, death, the usual stuff. Now I just sit in my study in contemplation of my work with favorite pipe in hand, or sometimes watching the night sky from my garage (what little I can see of it given the light pollution from nearby Detroit) listening to the night or the patter of rain. But this forum makes it a little less solitary.

Well I have met a great bunch of people in just a matter of days coming to this forum. The type of people you seem to meet here is a group of people that would take you a lifetime + to meet under normal conditions. I like you Sparrowhawk smoke alone, but hopefully that will change shortly. Cigrmaster lives near me and has invited me to a bit of a get together this weekend. :puffy:

Pipe smoking began as a social activity, among native Americans as ceremony, and among

Europeans as a inn and pub activity. It's been an accompaniment to conversation.

+1 puffy! I've been on other forums with different topics (guitar related) and even though I have 20+ years of experience there, never felt like I belonged or had anything to contribute. There was just a different feel to them. I don't know how to explain it, but just not as welcoming. Here, I felt at home immediately.

I haven't been able to post lately. My daughter who lives in Boulder, CO., lost her house and most of all her family's possessions. They are lucky, though. It was a narrow escape for them.
So, I've been sitting on my deck, high and dry here in Tennessee, counting my blessings and smoking my beloved pipes. In times like this, my pipes and this forum provide solace for an aching heart.

Couldn't agree more Puffy, there is something about the gang here that just feels right. I thought I would just pickup some tips and move on. In actuality I've made a true friend in person and am building good friendships with others along with all of the other virtual friends around the globe. This place is definitely one of solace for me.
Tennsmoker, glad to hear your daughter is safe, possessions can be replaced.
