It's pipe smoking season! It's always pipe smoking season around here, but there's just something about fall and winter, and the holidays that make it feel like pipe smoking season. Fred Brown evokes some of this in his November submission for PipesMagazine.com. Check it out right here.

It's almost the time of year when I can smoke my Christmas Pipes! (Self imposed mortarium in which they are smoked only from the week of Thanksgiving until New Years Day.)

I would agree that the transition from fall into winter does feel more like pipe smoking season. I think that it has to do with the natural cycles of not only nature, but our lives, where in the fall and winter, we are supposed to slow down and recuperate from the busy spring and summer seasons. Being that smoking a pipe is in essence the same slowing down, the two seem to go hand in hand.

Out of curiosity, why the moratorium?

I understand being festive and the pipes being special. Any other reason?
