I was involved in rugby for 42 years as a player, coach and committee member. I played hooker and flanker for - among others - Northampton, the University of Bristol and the Barclays Bank England team. I also coached and ran the Saracens School of Rugby and the Essex County Youth structure that produced a number of Premiership players and a current England squad member, hooker(!) Jamie George. My son played for Saracans.
There were thousands of pipe-smoking rugby players, but the most famous has to have been the Ireland and British Lions captain and legend Willie-John McBride
