To add to the advice already given; when it's humid I had similar problems with aromatics with the pipe getting too hot and then the dreaded tongue bite.
This is what works for me; Make sure the tobacco is not moist. Get your pipe started, first the 'false light' then tamp. Light her up again and once properly lit, put the pipe down to allow it to cool.
Ten minutes should do it before relighting and it's good to go.
