"He wasn't hurt or even cold but crews removed his clothing to ensure he didn't get cold and he was driven home in the ambulance,"
Why not just place a blanket on him, I mean he's out of danger at that point.
YEs thats the point that stuck out at me out of this short article :P

Actually that makes sense. Wet clothing saps heat and could lead to hypothermia. Its actually much easier to get hypothermia than one might image- I went to an Emergency Mass Casualty training once and a fireman shared how they were practicing a mass decontamination scenario by hosing down college kids on a summer day in the 80's- they all started shivering and headed toward hypothermia even on a warm day.
Also, exposing the body is somewhat standard practice for EMS to ensure there are no unseen wounds that have resulted. Actually I found a giant bag of pot in a guy's pants once in the ER when we were "exposing" him after a car wreck. That was kind of interesting. :)

Very British of him, didn't want to make a fuss, thought it would be a good chance to finish his pipe bowl while he waited for assistance to arrive. Cheerio!

Well I understand that wet clothes can be worse and make even more cold... but he wasn't out in the wilderness... he was in an ambulance on his way home... they could have just placed a blanket on him sat him in a nice warm heated ambulance and when he got home he could have changed.
I know its a silly thing... but for whatever reason I can't let that go... I know.

Consider he'll be changed out of the soaked clothes anyway, and the sooner the better.
Have you ever sat around in fully soaked clothing? It ain't fun after five minutes.

I was about to share this piece of news - "Elderly man 'calmly' smokes pipe while 'sinking' in Loxley lake"
Hope this legendary cool pipe smoker is not one of us, though some of us would have done the same thing, perhaps. :puffy:
Another piece of news (not pipe smoking related), also showing the coolness of the elderly Brits, or at least the tendency of the BBC to select news to portray their coolness of their senior citizens.

Yes, he was!
Sinking? The car's bonnet -hood in N. American-is underwater, but the rest of the car seems to rest solidly on lake- pond more like it- bottom.

Ah, reporters. Anything to make more dramatic.
