Well, a topic to give the faint of heart the vapours, so those of a nervous disposition, look away.

It came to the crunch last night. I wanted another smoke but my body was telling me to lay down. Of normal events, I have some c*g*r*tt*s to hand, but picky picky, didn't want those.

And so, I loaded my freehand Invicta plateau with Cabbie's and took it with me. Being a messy sort of smoker, I was aware of my proclivity to ember and ash distribution, but nevertheless.

Once settled in my medical bed with the back raised, copy of "Thinking And Destiny" to hand, I sparked up. It was a really nice hour, reading and gently puffing away and, to the point, I didn't spill a drop.

That is the first time I've attempted such a feat and I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with myself. Combustion stayed where it ought, right to the bottom of the bowl rather than right to the bottom of the duvet, and I slept well thereafter.

Any other recumbent pipe smokers here?

My dad set a few beds on fire in his last months. They always got the fire put out, but it did become a nuisance. He couldn't move very fast, and he was always half out of it. That was when we decided it was time for the nursing home.
But, I am not suggesting that it is time for you to go to a Nursing home, but you might want to be aware that others... jus' sayin'
Be careful.

I do this often enough. I used to smoke cigarillos in bed. There were a few times when i'd wake up with a hole in the sheet and dig 1/2 a cigarillo from the "sleeping nest" only to finish it off in the morning. Nowadays it's not rare for me to take my final pipe to bed and finish it off in the low light environment to get the melatonin going. I've only once thus far dropped my pipe while passing out. My biggest fear would be to wake up with a meerschaum in my sheets and have it go flying only to get damaged on the concrete slab when i fling the sheets off to get up in the morning. Simple solution: only take briars to bed. :P

I don't want to sound A-retentive , but it might not be a good idea to advocate smoking in bed on a public forum .
Could there be a lawyer or two monitoring us as I type....... ?

No offence Bing .

Wait... your bed is a concrete slab? That's some tough MF'er right there. puffy
I don't sleep ON the concrete, but im speaking of the bedroom in my shop where i find myself more and more often as i get older. 1200sf concrete slab. I simply did a faux finish paint job on the floors in the developed spaces (bedroom/smoking lounge/bathroom) for ez clean up. But i do smoke 5 brothers, Tambolaka, Rustica and brown and black ropes. Maybe people will still think i'm a tough guy. Or at least a legend in my own mind.
