Pipe Smoking Ascension

Been watching a lot of Stargate SG1 lately, just binged through all 10 seasons and starting SG Atlantis and it made me think, at what point do you reach pipe smoking ascension, when you move on to a higher plane of pipe smoking.

I personally think it's the point when you know how you liked your tobacco's moisture level, and when you load a bowl you just load a bowl and smoke it. No 3 pinch method or 4 pinch method, no this or that advice from a schmuck on youtube, more often than not you use your finger for a tamper, you just load and go, you enjoy your pipe without having to think about the process. While the process of preparing is still enjoyable but more on a routine basis.

Makes me wonder how many of us have currently ascended.

In the dream, I had stuck a thin shanked stack into the corner of my mouth parallel to sides of my teeth with the bit all the way back to the last molar next to my inside cheek. I just left it there, no clench and went about my day, and the pipe just smoked as I breathed and I went about doing things. At some point, someone said something to me and I was startled—I remember seeing a small ball of ash dislodge and pop up out of the chamber.

It was very odd, but felt like the most automatic, thoughtless pipe smoking I had experienced to date. No thought, no attention to anything, just automatic smoking for hours without any tamping. Weird dream.

I have gotten that transcendent experience before, usually when I forget to overthink everything, and am just in a hurry. It works best if the tobacco moisture is perfect in the tin, is ready-rubbed or shag, and is nothing I was particularly looking forward to.

I thought I was there. But I just smoked a bowl of TS24 and it tasted like nothing. It smoked great, the mouthfeel good n creamy, just almost 0 taste. So I guess every now and again I try a blend that is new to me and get hit with a learning curve. Not sure what I’ll do to get this blend to sing. Probably slow my breathing and try it in a new pipe.

If you can cadger scoop a pipe full without looking at and light it without issue, you have achieved a pipe smoking state of one-ness. If you can then smoke that pipe to completion without gurgle or use of a pipe cleaner, you have achieved cosmic singularity. If you can smoke an average sized pipe from start to finish without tamping or relighting you are eternal.

'tasted like nothing' has happened to me a couple times...and both times it was kicking off allergies (hay fever) shutting down my olfactory... taste came back after a few days (thankfully)

You only smoke Virginias, right? I would challenge that you must be able to achieve this with any given blend/type to be truly ascended.

In the 60s my father worked for RCA and Ascension was on of the places they went to set up the radar installations for the Nasa flights.

I don't remember any casts of experts on YouTube teaching me how to load and smoke a pipe when I started. Oh yeah, those resources didn't exist back then the 80's. Yes, at some point I think the experienced piper acquires native skills on judging moisture and how to properly pack his/her pipe to specific preference or cut of tobacco. It becomes somewhat mindless or autonomic behavior at some point, I think.
