Pipe Smoking and MS Flight Simulator

So, like a lot of people, I've always enjoyed smoking my pipe while reading or associating it with other activities, like studying or listening to music, but one day I thought "Hey, I like the relaxing aspect of flight simulators, so why not takeoff, turn the autopilot on and light my pipe while the autopilot does its job and I monitor everything while enjoying a nice blend?" So I did that and had an awesome time with Telegraph Hill. The relaxing aspect of just watching the plane doing its work (until I have to land, of course) combined with the relaxing aspect of pipe smoking gave me a wonderful experience. Anyone else does the same or has other unusual activities they like to do while smoking a pipe?

If I could smoke at home, I reckon I'd smoke my pipe whilst cruising in search of tankers and freighters in Silent Hunter III.

Unfortunately, I haven't been close to anywhere with a nice night sky for a while now, since my family sold our house at the countryside, but I still love hunting for stars and planets. I've used a phone app last year to find Mars, Jupiter and Saturn and would just stare at them for whole minutes. Haven't tried smoking my pipe yet. Maybe some day when I live somewhere away from the city or take a trip.

Hey, look on the bright side, it's a simulator, so if I crash, nobody dies and my pipe will remain lit!

I find it interesting that two of my favorite games are mentioned here. I wonder what the commonality between pipe smoking and simulator games is. Maybe they both reward you for patience and a methodical approach. Maybe it is just that they are both relaxing and slow-paced ways to pass the time. Smoking and playing simulators can both be a kind of meditation.

I grew up playing various flight simulators and submarine simulators. I have no time for games these days, but hopefully someday I can revisit some old games while enjoying a pipe. I think it is a perfect pairing.

Quick tip, no need for engine anti ice on FL360. SAT is below -40.

It would be so much nicer cruising for 3 hours with some quiet nights.

Oh well, bring the coffee and cookies...

To the point of the OP.... I don't really have any weird / unique activity while smoking. I tend to sit on my front porch and smoke to force myself to go slow and unwind. Sometimes when that's not possible I smoke while driving in my truck.

Tie Fighter has an awesome campaign (given that I was under 10 years old at the time, yes I used all the cheats, but I'm so glad they were an option).

Afraid I can't be of much help here. I'm still running Win7 and my SH3 is a DVD I bought over 15 years ago. But the game's available on Steam, so I reckon it can be installed and played on modern systems. Some tweaking might be required, though: a quick StartPage search turned up a number of guides to make it run on Win10.

I'd love to smoke while cruising in the 185. Unfortunately, It's just a little too distracting for me, and the idea of having anything on fire in a single engine aircraft just doesn't feel right, haha.

Plus my old man still flies it from time to time as well, and he would ream me a new a-hole if he caught the smell, haha. Dead fish slime and moose blood, sure..........pipe smoke.........not so much.
