Before a couple of you codgers jump in and say “you’ve posted a lot about health concerns and pipe smoking, you should quit” (as they have commented on a post before) I’m not really worried about health concerns just curious about this topic 😂.

How do you think a clean diet mitigates health concerns about pipe smoking? I’m a very clean eater and care (probably too much) about what I put in my body. Do you think having a clean diet mitigates the risks of things like gastric, throat, pancreatic, and stomach cancers sometimes associated with pipe smoking?

I always thought moderation was difficult to define since it’s different from person to person. None of us are getting out of here alive but a lot of us would like to live as long as possible and die without crippjngly painful cancers 😂

No, maybe. Too many variables.

Enjoy a better diet if you desire, but don’t plan on it having any effect on how your body processes everything pipe.

If you are that concerned ….. ;)

If you enjoy pipe smoking, smoke a pipe. If you enjoy doing your best to mitigate health issues and try to live as conscious as possible about your health while accepting the small risks of moderate pipe smoking, that's the way to go for you. Some people smoke cigarettes their whole life and live to be 90. Others don't ever smoke and eat in a way they believe is "healthy" and die young of lung cancer, completely flabbergasted.

Bottom line: Life is to be lived. When our day comes, it will come, whether you're 40 or 100. And there's no way to know the difference, no matter how you choose to live. But by all means, live life to the fullest, whatever that looks like for you, so that when that day does come you will be able to at least say that you truly lived and enjoyed your life.

With regard to smoking? All I can do is trust my genes. I'm adopted and have no access to family health records.

I'm way past my "use by date." But, I do suggest a person thinking about taking up smoking do the research, family history and such before making the decision. A proper diet will most certainly, in a positive way, have an affect on one's autoimmune system. The less one stresses that system well, the better off one will likely be.

It might make you feel like you are more in control of your health if you eat clean so less stress. Certainly can’t hurt. I eat pretty well these days because it has a positive effect on my mental health. Might be psychosomatic but what ever works.

I think it depends to some extent on what is meant by “clean.”
60% proteins from animal based, 30% from whole grains, vegetables, fruits, etc., 10% healthy natural fats (butter, olive oil, eggs, fish, etc.). Exercise every day and only eat Whole Foods except for some fun days on the weekend. It helps my mental health as well and look good for my wife 🤪.
