I think that there is some degree of addiction, as to most hobbies. However I find that my buying addiction is worse than my smoking addiction! :puffpipe:

I think almost everyone on this site has a clear understanding of what addiction is. Some people are addicted to Nicotine, some are addicted to the action of pipe smoking (relaxation), some are addicted to hoarding tobacco and some are addicted to hoarding pipes.
I am of the last category. i am pretty busy being a single dad but over the last few months i have spent a retarded amount of money on pipes. (truly) I only smoke maybe 5 times a week, but by God I can do it in any one of a decent (and growing) colletion of pipes. I haven't even broken 1 in properly, as i read on these threads.
I have an Estella Oompaul that I can load up and it smokes for like 90 minutes (and I am a FAAST smoker... something else i need to fix now that I started reading here). That pipe with Tinderbox's North Sea will give me a nic buzz. but usually i don't get one.
Like everything else on this planet, pipe smoking isn't 'good' for you. I am positive it is by far the least dangerous way to play with tobacco, tho and by golly the funnest, hands down.

I have been dabbling with cigars for a couple of years now, and recently added pipe smoking to my "habits". I don't find myself worrying about when to get my next fix as such. Usually stop puffing in November and resume around April ... LOL ... that winter thing gets in my way.

Been smoking pipe 30+ yrs. five to ten bowls a day. During that time, I've stopped many times for days, weeks or months at a time. But I enjoy my briar and leaf immensely. Don't inhale. Clench all day. I don't pipe at work, but that's because they PAY me NOT to smoke. LOL. Get plenty of exercise and eat right. When doctor gives me a perfect bill o' health every year, why I slap him a high five and tell him: It's the pipe, dum dum. He'll laugh and say: Just keep on doin what yer doin. Pipe on. And do so with a forward motion. And to that I say Amen.

I spend most my days driiving a truck.I'll smoke 4 to 10 bowls a day while driving....

Considerably fewer(if any) on my days off. Once I get behind the wheel though

I'll probably fire up.

I am likely psychologically hooked on pipes. They have been my friends in good and bad times. I take them fishing. I take them on trips. I take them when I have to face down a monster or two.
I smoke three maybe four bowls a week. But that's now. When I was younger, I smoked a pound every other week! I was running my own show at the time, putting in dragon-slaying hours. I quit for 20 years for some reason. Can't say why now, because I don't recall other than a doctor told me to. And my daughter asked me to stop. I did.
I began smoking my pipe again roughly 15 years ago and have not quit for any great length of time since. I go a week or so now and then without smoking. I don't honestly think I am addicted to the tobacco, but I do know that I am addicted to my pipes.

I used to smoke cigarettes for a good 7 years or so, and quit cold turkey without much problem. To me nicotine really is more of a mental addiction. I smoke about 2 bowls a day now in my pipe, once in the morning, once in the evening. I just came off a cold/flu and didn't touch my pipe for a good week, didn't really feel any cravings whatsoever. If anything smoking too much tobacco makes me feel kind of jittery and not good, get addicted to morphine and when you don't have it you get a fever, diarriah, and you can't eat until you get a fix and then you feel normal, and then go back to how bad you think a nicotine addiction is. It's all in the head mainly.
