I only have my own experience to share, but when I started buying Castello's I had to change how I smoked a pipe. The reason (or so in my head the reason) is because the draw was so much more wide open in them compared to the other pipes that you mentioned. My advice would be to smoke just the Castello for a week or so, smoking slower than you think you should.

I'm certainly not as experienced as many here but I think one thing has not been discussed. Pipes are briar and as such are a variable natural product. It at vary in its conductivity. I am a hobbyist carpenter and oak, for example, can vary greatly within each millimetre. Might not briar be the same? I'm sure makers try but can they tell?

What I was saying earlier is, a pipe with a wide open draw may need to have the tobacco packed tighter than your other pipes. Pack the tobacco a little tighter in your Castello and see how it goes.
