He was a great man until on his way out he helped pass probably the most damaging ruling in history. He and his cronies shit on the election laws and have now allowed mega corporations to give as much money as they want to any candidate who will whore for them. We are now officially a banana republic where poiticians can be openly bought and paid for. Thanks Scalia.

Justice Scalia no doubt was a brilliant mind. I am saddened by his death, and the loss of another pipe smoking brother of the briar. I, too, offer condolences to his bereaved family.
But, and this is my opinion, he sided with the majority in Citizen United, which absolutely sucks the wind out of democracy by allowing bags of money to pour into political campaigns as we see today.
The 5-4 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court changed the political landscape in this nation. It was a seriously flawed ruling that needs to be revisited.
And, no, I'm not a flaming liberal. I'm just one American who simply disagrees with this SCOTUS law. I hope I have not offended any sensibilities here.
I still believe that pipe smokers are the mind workers of the world!

You're never going to prevent politicians from being bought but we should limit political donations to actual individuals, not corporations or unions, with full disclosure so we can see exactly who is buying our politicians.

The Constitution is not a large document but in it you can find something to support most any position. It's just a matter of finding 5 judges to like your interpretation of it. Scalia fell more in the camp of if the Constitution doesn't say it then we cannot rule for it. In other words if you want a law go to Congress not the courts.

Don't get whining and crying over one case when the commerce clause, to mention but one SCOTUS abuse of the Constitution, has been perverted to an extreme, and this was never envisioned at the founding. It is a joke to read some of this nonsense. Scalia quit smoking a pipe a while back. He smoked a pipe. He seemed to be a genuine good guy, a fun guy to be around, even for those who disagreed with him. And he smoked a pipe. I hope those who are slamming him enjoy the regulation and taxation of tobacco their ilk seem to wallow in. I would like to see this thread closed.

I'm glad to see some counter-opinions posted over the past day. I thought I was the only one here thrilled by the vacancy. The fact is, he hid behind the Constitution just as often as he defended it and I do hope the next 9th Justice interprets the document in a way that benefits ALL Americans.

...the train is off the track, probably best to shut it down before it goes over the cliff and explodes on impact...:)
