Strong tobacco: small. Thin fluffy cut of medium nicotine, deep. Beefy balkans, 7/8" or wider pots.
All others, I prefer conic bowls of 3/4 ish top diameter. They are harder to find, though.

Is there an easy “group number” to inches conversion?
I just started a thread about this (Definitive Guide to Dunhill Group Sizes :: Pipe Talk - https://pipesmagazine.com/forums/threads/definitive-guide-to-dunhill-group-sizes.91733/). How do these people just happen to know group sizes? I've been a SP.com groupie for 5 years, and a forum groupie for 2 or 3 years, and I still haven't the foggiest notion where this whole group size knowledge is derived.

My most frequently smoked pipes range from Group 4 to 5+. I like the longer smoking time.

A few blends like Dark Plug and some of the twists will usually go in one of my Group 3-4 pipes.

A standard medium-sized pipe is best for me, though I sometimes enjoy the larger sizes (of which I have only a couple) when I know I can some extra time to sit and smoke and read a book or chat with a friend ... and when the blend isn't strong. I don't mind smaller bowls, especially with some of the stronger burley blends (I can't get queasy on too much nicotine), but they are nice, too, if you just want a shorter smoke while doing work in the yard or whatever.
