I have a tendency to smoke "English" blends in Dunhill Shell billiards. It has nothing to do with tobacco taste or performance of the pipe, but is an associational thing, if that's a word. English this, English that--get it? You don't? Well, that's probably because you still retain a remnant of sanity regarding this weighty topic, whereas I lost my pipesmokerly marbles years ago.

English this, English that. Danish this, Danish that….

obviously it wouldn’t necessarily apply anymore, but was there a point in history in which the tobacco blending style of a particular region matched the development of that region’s pipe styles?

I've been prone to Danish blends in Ben Wades and Holms. ?
Totally get that ?
Although my 2 Ben Wades are from the era when the Brits made their own goods rather selling the farm and sending production offshore. ?

I’m mostly a VaPer and VA guy, but when I smoke an English blend, it is in my Sasieni Coventry I reserve especially for its kinfolk.

I'm pretty sure by now few members already have mentioned it but.. Shape has nothing to do with it. Chamber dimension does. And chamber is bore out using a tool controlled by hand, chance of two being exactly identical is rather rare. So two pipes of different shapes might have similar chamber dimensions, but probably won't smoke the same.

My entirely subjective impression of my own smoking experience is that I get the best burn of folded and stuffed flakes in pipe bowls that are < .80”. Emphasis on “…entirely subjective…”. Experiment and find what works for you.
