I would vote for Ropp, Rossi or a Dr Grabow. If you want cheap but a good smoker. Btw one of my favourite pipes was an estate I picked up on eBay and restored. Cost me about $15

I have a Rossi Vittoria prince that I like, with a broader bowl if you like English and similar blends with at least several tobaccos. You can't beat the price on those, and I don't find the fit and finish particularly low end, pretty nice in fact. The early Rossi's had a tinge of the "Flintstones" to them, in the stamping for example, but they've dressed them up. Mine is the nicer version. Another suggestion, or as a back-up to a Rossi, would be the MM/Dagner cob, a pocket/nose-warmer with an acrylic stem, a poker with an ample bowl and a sitter, $23 at the MM site, and worth it to me. Another "best choice" would be the deal on Tsuge tasting pipes at PC, $39.99, but I think that deal is long gone.

...or new or estate, some version of the Peterson B11 bent brandy, available in low-end and other series, that is nicely shaped, a sitter, and fairly light weight. We have a new member who states it is his favorite pipe, at last my recommendation confirmed. I like it so well, I bought two, a Shannon and an ebony Killarney.

In my opinion (and I do quite a lot of driving) the medium bowl Half bent is best shape while driving and preferably not overly heavy in weigh, in this regards many French manufactured pipes fit this purpose very well,
