I use a small lock knife with the tip ground down round. They don't seem to make pipe reamers that will fit my favorite pipes without taking off all the cake completely just about, and I like about a nickel thick cake at a minimum. That makes the diameter of my favorite pipe a hair under .600 inches in diameter.

I have used the Senior reamer, the Pipnet, the Castleford, as well as individual Danish made steel reamers. I prefer the Pipnet and the Danish made steel reamers. The Castleford is a cheap Chinese knockoff of the Pipnet and the quality of the one that I bought was awful. Too late I discovered that there was a burr on the cutting edge which gouged the interior of the chamber. Into the trash went the Castleford. If your chamber is conical, you need to work very carefully to avoid gouging the briar. With a conical bowl I use several sizes of reamer and then use emery paper to sand off the ridge between the reamers. What I really need is a good conical reamer. With certain odd shaped chambers I use emery wrapped around a shaped piece of dowel.

That's okay, it happens. Practice makes perfect. Unless you cracked the bowl or took off too much wood to where the bowl is out of round or the walls are too thin, it's an easy fix with drywall sanding screen, then sandpaper and of course lots of elbow grease.
