I was thinking you might be able to use some black rubber drawer liner for resting the bowls on. I use that stuff in the drawer of my tool chest.

Rather than roughing up the surface where the pipes set why don't you go to a hardware store and pick up the little round self sticking felt pads designed to go on the bottom of chair legs to protect wood floors. The soft side of Velcro may work as well.
Just a thought…

Thanks for the Ideas. I am going to do just that, I was going to use some cork but after hearing some suggestions I forgot I had some rubber drawer liners left over from my toolbox and I am going to try and use it, but the felt would look better. thanks to everyone for there comments and ideas.
