Hello oh knowledgeable ones ... I found this treasure in USA on eBay and became consumed with owning it ... unlike USA & UK the antiques market is very limited so my quest always takes me o/seas.
So, if any of you could give me any comments and info, ideas or opinions as to this beauty's likely age, origins, maker (commercial or private) etc, I would be absolutely thrilled ....

I had budgeted that I would pay a lot more for it than what I did, a LOT more.
Thanks in advance, Dianne

that's a beauty, and one I would love to own....
the part of my mind which deals with fantasy wonders if perhaps the dog somehow comes to life at night and pads around, protecting your pipes from intruders....perhaps that was even the meaning of the dog motif that the designer had in mind: KEEP OUT! THESE PIPES ARE GUARDED!

I hold my pipes usually in old english pipe racks.I collect and restore them. From elisabethian period till 50'.I do that with no problems because for years i worked restoring old furnitures. So i can use them and get fun on restoring. The problem with old pipe racks is that they were made for pipes of the same period and old pipes have a small stem.Modern pipes dont' match the small holes of these pipe racks then needs to be re-drilled

Thanks a lot everyone, I'm really chuffed it's not just me who appreciates it's beauty! I would've put it at 30's - 40's myself but am no expert.
Dang thing is costing US$70 to post, the poor seller is beside himself and keeps saying if I want to rescind he'll understand - pfft, I've told him I've already made arrangements to ensure it's buried with me, along with my fave pipe & taxidermied African Grey Parrot, Zachary Amadeus bless his departed soul - Eccentric? Me? Never!

Awww c'mon Ace, that's why we love 'em, they never shut up and actually talk in context!
If you've ever seen Achmed the Dead Terrorist on youtube (funniest freakin' think you'll ever see), my Zac would always say "Sileeeeence, I keeeeeeel yooou!" when visitors got too rowdy, he'd stomp around saying, "Fooool of a man, pfft" (a quote I'm quite famous for) and "eeeeevil bird, mwhahahahaha" when he'd done something wrong.
I would burp/belch & he'd say, "You're rude!" so I'd do it again, and he'd say, "I said, you're RUDE!" Tragically he died from heavy metal poisoning at 4yo, those goddamned white PVC large blade venetian blinds made in China, they're full of lead & toxins and he used to chew on them every day - wasn't until after he'd died and a $900 vet bill I researched until I damn near killed myself to find out what it was as there was NO metal in this house he could get to. The Vet was eternally grateful for me providing facts to back up my research and now warns all of his parrot owners of the dangers of those. I didn't give a stuff about losing the $6k all up, I lost my best friend, my partner, the love of my life.
My Ex couldn't stand seeing me so fragile for such a very, very long time so he insisted I get another - enter Miss Madeline Orthelia Blanche Grey .... Pipe Snatcher From Hell who's still refusing to talk damn her! What a bastard though, I believe they're only around $500-600 over there, typical Colonies, we pay 10 times as much for our tobacco & parrots grrrrr.
So bird lovers, lose those venetian blinds if your birds chew on them or even mouth them, because the lead actually leeches out & forms a deadly dust coating on the blades.
