might have a benefit of decreasing stress levels

The "good for you" argument can be a tough sell, but for me, pipe smoking has been a godsend. Like many here, I have had my share of difficulties this past year and pipe smoking has allowed me to focus on something other than just problem after problem.
But even more so...No one lives on this planet without doing some harm in one form or another - either to themselves, others around them or to the planet itself. One could make all sorts of arguments and just as easily attack any behavior. For me, it boils down to live and let live.
These days, nearly everything is "illegal" thanks to busy bodies telling others how to live.
Instead, put them on the defensive and throw their argument right back at them: If they drink alcohol, well, they are "harming" their body = "wrong". Do they eat beef? Well, the raising of beef cattle puts significant stresses on the planet - it's "wrong". Do they feed their children hormone-laced milk? GMO cereals? Corn syrup laden sodas? Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Do they like to take vacations or simple joy-rides? Well, the "unnecessary" travel is polluting the air - it's "wrong". Did they buy an iPad or some other product produced in the third-world? Well, they are contributing to world slavery and pollution - "wrong". Do they use plastic products? Uh oh... etc etc The list never ends.
I put "wrong" in quotes because these actions are not wrong per se - the fact is, man does not live by bread alone. Each of us does what we can to survive in this world and each of us gravitates to what suits us best. if we do everything in moderation, that's the best we can do IMHO.
Ultimately though, it's an argument you just can't win.
