Regarding the carvers in the $300-$500 range, there are many good ones, but I'll restrict my recommendations to carvers whose pipes I own. Ryan Alden has already been mentioned and I'll second that! Others are Sean Reum, José Rubio, Rhox, and Zhiputang. Some will be less than $300 from some of these.

I have six of them and every one is a superb smoker.
Also check out Arly Curtz. I have 6 of his as well, and they are all great smokers. I paid between $50 and $100 each for them. His prices have gone up as he's been buying better grained wood, but he's still a bargain.

These Sav sales on the spigot sterling series are still going on at SP. Both Bordeaux and Natural are insanely low compared to other sites. Scooped up a 315 bordeaux a few weeks back. Was tempted to buy a few of them.
