I have (mild) OCD.
So the expectation is having my pipes, tobacco and paraphernalia laid out for the following day/week
Leaving the tobacco choice to the last is one way of encouraging spontaneity
Hence not having sufficient time to dry the tobacco at times
But I'd rather that than pander to my OCD 😁

I don't even do that anymore, I pack lighter when there's more moisture. The added access for oxygen dries the tobacco as I smoke it.
I find meerschaum chips and Nording Keystones to be a cheap solution.
Tobacco is very expensive in Oz, so minimising dottle results in a not insignificant saving
Of course the better option is drying the tobacco and packing lightly. And not huffing

I have about a dozen pipes and most are filled, sometimes a pipe can sit for up to 2 weeks before its smoked, there's no specific rotation. I just pick a pipe for the circumstances
The only time they are not filled is when one or more have been smoked and waiting for a quick clean... at the end of cleaning I'll fill it again

Tropical climate so the tobacco never gets totally dry

I have no problem with it, infact I think its a good thing and will smoke better. I just never know what I'm in the mood for.

Different for me, I generally don't give any thought to what tobacco is in a pre-filled pipe

For me when I grab a pipe, its to smoke a pipe, not to smoke a tobacco
(that made sense when I typed it, hope it does when reading back)

When we drive up to or back from our cabin in NC, I will pack five pipes for the trip. Sometimes I never get to the last pipe, but better prepared and not need it, than to let my wife pack one for me. She tends to really cram it full, ha ha.

Don't forget the charring light to help keep the tobacco in the chamber, plus... it adds to the DGT.
