I do like the look of the stamping when filled with gold like @craig61a has done with a number of his pipes, but I’m loath to do it to any of my own as I am a bit of a purist and prefer things “as issued”—some of this comes from book collecting and primacy; I much prefer an “unsophisticated” dust jacket that has not been retouched, restored, or altered and is 100% original, the way it was released (generally don’t mind an archivally mended tear because it should prevent the tear from getting worse). This may tie in with why I’m bothered by seeing pipes that have been over buffed and waxed, and look like shiny, dripping wet, candied apples, quite far from their original, more understated finishes.
