so i recently restarted my summer job and with that the drive home. i live only 20 or so minutes away from my job but afternoon traffic has turned that drive into 45 minutes. i decided the best way to pass the time would be to smoke my pipe and for the past two days have done so and what do you know no traffic whatsoever. my only conclusion is that this pipe is magic and makes all of my traffic go away.

Maybe you are achieving the ultimate state of pipe smoking nirvana that you don't even notice the traffic.

While I do enjoy smoking my pipe during my evening commute, I find that I don't enjoy it as much because of a couple of factors. Lighting a pipe while driving is a pain in the tail. Also, I roll down my windows a little in hopes of drawing the smoke out of the car and it tends to make my pipe burn hotter than usual. It is almost made up for by the looks that I get from other drivers, though.

Invest in one of those cheap removable bowl caps or that next gust of wind could really cause a pain in the tail. Don't ask me how I know, just trust me.

I must have one of those.. whenever I need to load or re-light I never get a traffic light.

I feel like 90% of all advice I give is ended with those exact words!

I don't smoke in my car sadly because I drive 1.5 hours every weekend to and from my girlfriends house, but it's worth it. I drive a new car and it was a huge factor in helping me quit cancer sticks.

Personally, I enjoy a pipe every morning on my commute in to work. It turns out that my commute matches a couple of my smaller pipes perfectly. And on the days where there's extra traffic I can't help but smile when looking at all the other commuters who aren't enjoying themselves nearly as much.

Which is better, only spending 20 minutes on your drive home and saving on fuel, or spending 45 minutes to make it home, spending more on fuel but getting to enjoy a pipe? I say take the 20 minute drive home and then light up your pipe once you get there. ;)

I have to smoke when I drive, because my road rage would be unbearable. Pack up a bowl or two ahead of time, and wrap them in cellophane or use a wind cap like I do. Then light up as needed. Oh, be sure to remove the cellophane or wind cap before you apply the flame! Don't ask me how I know that!

I don't have a commute but whenever I get in the car I have my pipe lit before I turn the ignition. If my pipe goes out I have no problem lighting while driving, although I am careful not to scorch the rim.

How much for this magic pipe?
 Ditto
I drive at least 3.5 hours every day on my courier route, usually 5+, in a rickety old mini-van with no air conditioning, all manual door locks and windows.
Traffic sure does make me appreciate my pipe even more, that's for sure ... but you get used to it when you do it regularly.
